| Malacañang on Sunday warned the public from buying fake rice which reportedly had found its way in the Davao City.
“Nananawagan po tayo sa mga mamamayan na maging maingat at bumili lamang ng bigas mula sa mga accredited at reliable na nagbebenta nito, ‘yun po talagang authorized rice dealers o mga tindahan ng bigas na mayroong pahintulot ng NFA (National Food Authority) at sa mga awtoridad,” said Presidential Communications Operation Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., in a radio interview with dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
President Benigno Aquino III, last Friday, has ordered Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to trace where the fake or synthetic rice originated, Coloma noted.
Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization Secretary Francis Pangilinan was also told to investigate the matter.
“Ang NFA (National Food Authority) sa pamamagitan ng kanilang Food Development Center ay nagsasagawa ng mga laboratory test ng mga sample na naisumite po sa kanila at ipapalabas po nila ang resulta nito sa lalong madaling panahon,” said Coloma.

| President Benigno Aquino III monitors the development of Typhoon ‘Egay’ as it continues to affect Northern Luzon, Presidential Communications Operation Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., said on Sunday.
“Patuloy ang pagsubaybay sa bagyong ‘Egay’ ng Pangulong Aquino at ng buong puwersa ng pamahalaan sa pangunguna ng National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) upang tiyakin ang kaligtasan at pangalagaan ang kapakanan ng ating mga mamamayan na apektado ng bagyo. Zero casualty pa rin po ang layunin nating lahat,” said Coloma in a radio interview with dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 5 a.m. Sunday, Typhoon Egay, with an international name Linfa, is in the vicinity of Divilacan, Isabela with maximum winds of 95 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and has a gustiness of up to 120 kph.
“Inaasahang tutulak ang bagyo patungong hilagang-kanluran o northwest sa direksyon ng Aparri, Cagayan at Basco, Batanes bago tuluyang lumabas sa Philippine area of responsibility sa darating na Miyerkules ng hapon,” Coloma added.
Signal No. 2 is raised at Kalinga Apayao, Isabela, Quirino, Hilagang Aurora, Cagayan, Babuyan at Calayan Islands. While the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Mountain Province, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Batanes is at Signal No. 1.
“Patuloy ang pagpapaalala ng pamahalaan sa mga mangingisda at maliliit na sasakyang pandagat na huwag nang pumalaot at magiging mapanganib ang mga alon na dulot ng bagyo. Pinapayuhan din ang mga naninirahan sa mga mabababang lugar, lalo na sa daraanan ng bagyo na mag-ingat sa banta ng posibleng pagguho ng lupa o landslide bunga ng ulan,” said Coloma.
He also encouraged the public to monitor PAGASA’s 24-hour public weather forecast and to follow the instructions of the local disaster risk reduction management council.
Coloma also assured the public that there is sufficient emergency fund.
“Lahat po ng ating ahensya ay mayroong mga naka-preposition na mga kagamitan, relief goods at resources, mayroon din po silang quick release funds na available po sa kanila nang agaran. Kaya huwag po tayong mag-alala at mayroon pong sapat na pondo sa lahat ng mga kinakailangang gawin ng ating pamahalaan,” said Coloma. PND (ag) |
