Interview

Interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar by Orly Mercado (DWFM – All Ready)

ORLY: Secretary Martin, good morning.

SEC. ANDANAR: Good morning Ka Orly.

ORLY: Okay, congratulations to you and all, lahat napakarami kasama siguro sa paghahanda ng opening ceremony. Pero it was one of the best at maraming nagsasabi na maganda talaga ang naging opening ceremony natin.

SEC. ANDANAR: Maraming salamat, Ka Orly. You know we’ve had months and months of preparation since the opening of the ASEAN 30th noong Abril, iyong 50th noong August at 31st naman ngayong Nobyembre; so at least nakita ng buong mundo ang talent ng Pilipino.

SEC. ANDANAR: Hindi ko masyadong kilala iyong first name nung Director, but he have been working with the ASEAN since day 1, noong sa opening nung Abril and…sa opening naman hanggang ngayon nakita natin na very professional talaga. I think the group has handled this. It’s been a group that he have been doing this for years.

SEC. ANDANAR: Well, first of all, before I get to this day.

Sunud-sunod talaga Ka Orly. Tignan mo naman iyong schedule kahapon from opening to the ASEAN-COS, ASEAN-plenary, ASEAN-Japan, ASEAN-Korea at ASEAN-China. Talagang full packed.

But today, we will begin with the 20th ASEAN plus 3, ang commemorative summit ng alas-nuwebe, and then pagkatapos iyong ASEAN-Canada a 40th anniversary.

Tapos ang third, 11:30 ay iyong ASEAN-EU 40th anniversary commemorative summit and then 12:30 iyong luncheon naman ng ating Pangulo sa ASEAN head of state and government. Tapos by 1:30 nandiyan iyong inaabangan na East Asia Summit. Tapos by 3:45, may regional comprehensive economic partnership leaders meeting and then 5:00 p.m. ASEAN-India, tapos 6:00 p.m signing of the ASEAN consensus on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers.

SEC. ANDANAR: Oo, matagal na. Tapos by 7:00 p.m ay iyong closing ceremony na ng 31st ASEAN Summit at iyong handover ng chairmanship to the Republic of Singapore.

ORLY: I see, mamayang gabi iyon.

SEC. ANDANAR: Oo, tapos meron pang bilateral meeting sa gabi after ng press conference with the New Zealand Prime Minister, iyong pinakabata si Jacinda Ardern.

ORLY: Bagong-bago. So far, so good naman. Wala namang major glitches and hitches?

SEC. ANDANAR: Ay so far, so good. In fact, all of the counterparts of the President ay talagang magkasundo sila eh. The President hitched it off with all of his counterparts lalung-lalo na kay President Donald Trump at kay President Dmitry Medvedev kagabi.

So hindi talaga siya nabanggit in the sense that it was questioned or kailangan pag-usapan, hindi talaga siya nabanggit. I think there was just one reporter who tried to ask question… during that time there was a press, before the start of the bilateral of President Duterte and President Obama. But in terms of talagang tinanong ni Obama—tinanong ni Donald Trump… President Donald Trump, hindi po nangyari iyon.

ORLY: So by in large ano ba ang masasabi mong impression mo, we are doing a relatively well on track as far all the preparations are concerned and what is happening now.

SEC. ANDANAR: Opo, tama iyon Ka Orly. We are on track and on top of that, I really saw a President Rodrigo Roa Duterte managed the entire 31st ASEAN Summit very well and in fact, nakita ko na from last year’s ASEAN doon sa Lao hanggang ngayon, nakita natin na nag-standout talaga si President as a Chairman and he really stood up and he is beginning to like for—now he is already the leader of developing country.

ORLY: Thank you very much, Secretary Martin Andanar ng PCOO. Thank you very much for answering our call.
