PBBM inaugurates Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Bohol

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday led the inauguration of the Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP), a key infrastructure initiative aimed at improving agricultural productivity and supporting farmers in Bohol.

President Marcos unveiled the project marker together with National Irrigation Administration Administrator Eduardo Guillen.

Located in the municipality of Calape, the Calunasan SRIP is expected to irrigate approximately 300 hectares of farmland, directly benefiting around 400 farmers in the nearby communities including four barangays namely Calunasan, Abucayan Sur, Lucob, and Bentig.

According to NIA-Region VII Acting Manager for Engineering and Operations Division Nelson Doliente, the dam and irrigation facilities are already fully operational and have been serving local farmers since the system’s test run on August 20.

With a total cost of PhP813 million, the project is currently 97.94 percent complete. The remaining works, including slope protection and the construction of a view deck, are scheduled for completion by November 23, 2025.

Designed to increase crop yields, improve cropping intensity, and reduce irrigation costs, the Calunasan SRIP is seen as a major step toward strengthening food security and improving farmers’ livelihoods in the province. | PND
