| Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said on Monday, October 10, that the Palace respects the opinion of former President Fidel V. Ramos saying Ramos’ observations are worth looking into.
Abella said that the former president was not referring to the actual actions but to the public relations and foreign relations that tend to be affected by the President’s language.
“So in a sense, yes we listen to him, we respect him,” Abella said in a media interview in Malacanang.
But Abella said they also like to balance Ramos’ perspective by the statements made by his former National Security Adviser Jose Almonte who also made an assessment of the first 100 days of President Duterte.
Abella pointed out that based on the three-point mission mentioned by Almonte: poverty reduction, law and order, and peace and reconciliation, the President did exceptionally well.
“So there are really mixed reactions and while they maybe some concerns, we’d also like to, you know, at the end summarize the fact that the President is a man of action and really we need to appreciate that more,” the Palace official said.
Asked to comment whether the President has been distracted by criticisms on the ongoing war on illegal drugs, Abella said that the public must be more appreciative of the President’s vision for the country.
