PBBM renews call to tackle SCS issue to manage differences, reduce tensions
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday reiterated the need to address the South China Sea issue to manage differences and reduce tensions following the recent incidents between China and the Philippines. In his intervention at the 19th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Vientiane, Laos, President Marcos said the South China issue remains a strategic challenge for the concerned parties that is difficult to address.

On the first day of his official visit to Lao PDR for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to strengthen ties between the Philippines and Vietnam.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos have arrived at the Wattay International Airport for the four-day 44th and 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic of Republic.

The government will continue to ensure that Philippine engagements with ASEAN and other stakeholders will serve the country’s national interest and the well-being of the Filipino people, President Ferdinand R. Marcos said on Tuesday.
