
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. departs for Malaysia on Sunday to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit, reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to regional cooperation and the well-being of Filipinos and the Southeast Asian community.
“As always, our participation in the ASEAN Summit reaffirms our dedication to deepening regional cooperation and advancing the well-being of every Filipino and the entire Southeast Asian community,” President Marcos said during the departure ceremony at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on Sunday.
This year’s theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability” summit highlights the region’s shared commitment to progress and resilience.
President Marcos expressed full support for Malaysia’s chairmanship and its development vision.
During the summit, President Marcos will engage ASEAN leaders to address pressing regional and global challenges, including developments in the South China Sea, the situation in Myanmar, maritime security, climate change, economic volatility, and digital disruption.
“I will continue to champion our advocacies in promoting an open, an inclusive, and rules-based international order, and for the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law,” the Chief Executive noted.
President Marcos said another focus for the Philippines in the summit is promoting an ethical and responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework with ASEAN. He emphasized building “a future-ready ASEAN that is not only competitive but also people-centered and sustainable.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said 22 documents are expected from the summit, including the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN Vision 2045, joint statements from the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summits.
President Marcos will also hold several bilateral meetings and participate in nine leaders’ engagements, including sessions with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, youth representatives, and parliamentarians.
