CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) — To deter rowdy protesters, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it will deploy a mobile jail in strategic areas of the first State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The NCRPO said they have coordinated with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and will station buses of the BJMP and will put there those unruly protesters if needed.
President Marcos’ SONA is scheduled on July 25, 2022 at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. The event also marks the opening of the 19th Congress.
The measure is part of security preparations for Monday’s SONA, and while authorities recognize the protesters’ right to peaceful assembly, the NCRPO discouraged protesters from using effigies for their mass actions.
The agency said they already have contingency plans for any eventuality to maintain public order and safety.
Some 22,000 police and other personnel from the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Health, and force multipliers will be deployed in different areas during the inauguration.
In a report by the Philippine News Agency on Friday, the Quezon City Government has allowed so-called progressive groups to hold protest rallies along Commonwealth Avenue while government supporters may gather along IBP Road (also known as Batasan Road) during SONA. (PIA-NCR)
