PBBM: ASEAN-GCC-China partnership shaped by collaboration, not competition

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday expressed the Philippines’ enduring commitment to fostering inclusive, resilient, and sustainable partnerships in support of regional and global peace, stability, and development.

“More than our economic weight, it is the enduring connection between our peoples that gives true meaning to our partnership,” President Marcos said in his remarks at the first Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-China Summit.

The ASEAN–GCC–China Summit was convened as part of the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Joining fellow world leaders at the summit, President Marcos urged member states to seize the opportunity to forge meaningful partnerships that drive regional progress, global economic stability, and sustainability.

The Chief Executive emphasized the importance of deepening ties among ASEAN, the GCC, and China, highlighting their shared culture and values and the stronger potential for collaboration.

“As we navigate an increasingly complex global landscape, the Philippines remains firmly committed to deepening our engagement with partners across the Gulf, China, and our fellow Member States,” President Marcos said.

“We see a future shaped not by competition, but by collaboration, especially given our shared values, shared aspirations, and our shared growth,” the President added.

President Marcos underscored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI), calling for joint investments in digital infrastructure, innovation, and digital skills development.

“We must close connectivity gaps, strengthen digital infrastructure, and promote open, responsible innovation,” the Chief Executive said.

“Let us also deepen cooperation in digital trade, cybersecurity, and the development of digital skills so that
our youth, our entrepreneurs, and our workers are equipped to thrive in an AI-driven world.”

On sustainable development, President Marcos emphasized the importance of collaboration in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and food security, underscoring the need to protect and strengthen global food systems.

Beyond technology and trade, the President highlighted the value of fostering deeper human connections through education, tourism, and cultural exchange as essential pillars of long-term regional cooperation. | PND
