MANILA, (PIA) — Philippine authorities are ramping up security measures ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22 at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced a temporary suspension of permits to carry firearms outside residences from July 20 to 22.
The ban also extends to withdrawals of newly purchased firearms during the same period.
In an advisory, the PNP through PTCFOR Secretariat announced the suspension of Permit to Carry Firearm Outside Residence (PTCFOR), from 12:01 am of July 20, 2024 (Saturday) until 12:00 mn on July 22, 2024 (Monday).
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte revealed plans to deploy over 6,500 local security personnel at key locations to support existing security forces.
These measures aim to prevent potential security threats and ensure public safety during the high-profile event, which is seen as a cornerstone of the government’s “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines) initiative.
The coordinated efforts between national and local authorities underscore a united approach to maintaining order and facilitating the smooth conduct of the President’s address.
