PBBM: Marawi City now getting back on its feet

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed optimism that Marawi City is now getting back to normalcy as he recognized the progress of the programs and projects that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has taken.

President Marcos said in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) that Marawi City is now getting back on its feet, five years after the battle between government forces and Islamic-inspired terrorists reduced the city to rubble.

“Limang taon mula noong matinding kaguluhan, babangon na ang Marawi City. Nanunumbalik na ang sigla sa pamayanan. Maraming proyekto ang nakukumpleto at mga imprastrakturang naitatayo,” President Marcos said.

The President said that the government is now working on providing financial assistance for the victims of the Marawi siege as he wished for continued development, and peace and order in the city.

“Kasalukuyan na tayong nagpoproseso ng tulong-pinansyal para sa mga biktima ng Marawi siege upang sila ay makapag-simula muli. Nawa’y mamayani ang pag-asa. Nawa’y magpatuloy ang pagkakaisa, pagmamatyag, at paghahangad ng kapayapaan at kaunlaran,” he added.

President Marcos said he is proud of the progress that the BARMM has taken as he emphasized that it will be self-governing, progressive and effective, which was made possible with the cooperation of all key groups.

The President said that the success of the BARRMM including in the implementation of the peace process was through the cooperation of the local government, the royal families, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which were consulted and represented during the transition phase.

“The international community has also supported us in this smooth transition. Former adversaries are now partners in peace. Its functions have been defined, and its basic laws are now being written,” President Marcos said.

President Marcos believes that the Philippine government has strengthened the country’s prospects for achieving sustainable progress anchored on a true and lasting peace in the affected areas in southern Philippines through the BARMM.

The chief executive assured that the government will continue to support the progress of the BARMM, apace with the singular vision for all Filipinos. PND
