PCO meets New Zealand journalists to enhance media landscape understanding, awareness in Asia


Representatives from the Philippine Presidential Communications Office (PCO) met with journalists from New Zealand on Friday, June 28, at the New Executive Building in the Malacañang Complex to underscore ongoing efforts aimed at raising public awareness of its role in effective communication and the activities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. A key focus of the discussion was the Media and Information Literacy Campaign to combat widespread misinformation and disinformation.

The engagement aimed to deepen the understanding of the media landscape in Asia, particularly in the Philippines, and provide insights into the PCO’s role in managing executive branch communications.

Attendees included Gill Bonnett from Radio New Zealand, Toby Manhire from The Spinoff, Riley Kennedy of BusinessDesk, Sam Hurley of New Zealand Herald, Keiller Macduff of The Press, and Corazon Miller of Television New Zealand. Also present were Carla Teng-Westergaard and Grame Acton from the Asia New Zealand Foundation, along with David Pennycook, Second Secretary of the New Zealand Embassy.

The session highlighted the PCO’s commitment to transparency and its proactive approach against misinformation. Assistant Secretary Dale de Vera, Directors Sheryll Anne Lizarondo and Anna Cristina Villonco, Maria Izzabelle Chavez, Sean Louis Salazar of Digital Media Services, and Project Manager Miriam dela Cruz detailed collaborative efforts to promote media literacy and responsible communication practices.
