President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Monday led the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in Malacañang hoping that the event will serve as a reminder for everyone to continue helping others especially the poor and powerless.

“As we light up the Christmas Tree in the historic grounds of Malacañang, it is my ardent hope that it will serve as a reminder for everyone to continue lighting up the lives of others, especially those who are suffering from poverty and injustice,” the President said in his message during the event.

“I also hope that you will sincerely feel the warmth, abundance and happiness that is blessed — that this blessed season brings as you enjoy the many festivities ahead, not just in our office, but with your families as well.”

The Yuletide, according to the chief executive, has always been a festive occasion for Filipinos all over the world. It is a time when everyone is reminded to be grateful for the many challenges that allowed everybody to grow better, not as individuals but also as one community.

President Duterte also expressed his gratitude to the employees of the Office of the President (OP) for demonstrating unwavering commitment and the highest standards of professionalism in public service.

“Your dedication towards the work that you do is truly inspiring,” the President said noting that through the OP’s genuine desire to serve the country, the administration was able to fulfill its promises to the Filipino people.

The President also looks forward to the continuing dedication of the OP employees as his partners to ensure that the people can enjoy the services of an efficient, responsive and progressive government in the year to come.

“Together, let us continue to secure a better and brighter tomorrow for each Filipino so that we can achieve our shared vision for a more united and prosperous nation,” he added.

The 40-feet Christmas Tree, lit by the President at the Palace’s Kalayaan Grounds, is decorated with 1,235 lantern parols and 1,393 pieces of Christmas balls. PND
