President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administered the oath Monday of newly-appointed high ranking officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), asking them to safeguard people’s interests.
President Duterte swore in more than 90 newly-promoted generals and flag officers of the AFP and star rank officers of the PNP at the Rizal Hall in Malacañang.
In his speech, the President said that he is satisfied with the performance of the military and the police adding however that the police need reforms to correct many issues.
“Ang sa police lang, it needs to be corrected. It has always been a problem sa any administration for that matter,” he said asking the public to give him time to address the problem.
President Duterte also reminded the officers not to forget humanity despite their position.
“Wala lahat except humanity. ‘Yun lang. Bahala ka na mag-interpret ng ano — kung anong makakabuti para sa kapwa tao mo,” he stressed.
“Kung saan-saan man tayo magdating, be a general, a president, a senator, please do not forget. Tutal konti man lang ‘yan. Do not forget the philosophy of humanity,” he added. PND
