The administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will implement an Energy Conservation Plan as part of the measures to conserve energy amid the rising cost of power in the world market.
Department of Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said the high energy prices was discussed during the sectoral meeting with the economic team presided by the President on Tuesday.
“And then, pinakita rin namin na napaka importante na i-address natin iyong energy, kasi isang complaint talaga sa Pilipinas ay napakamahal ng energy cost. So, diniskas [discussed] namin iyon and sinabi naman natin na magkakaroon ng Energy Conservation Plan on the demand side,” the Cabinet official said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
“Kasi hindi naman tayo makaka-influence sa supply side kung mahal ang presyo ng gasolina World Market, hindi natin ma-influence iyon. But we can start conserving,” the DOF secretary pointed out.
Diokno said among the proposals are the adjustment of working hours to 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., implementation of a work-from-home scheme on Fridays and setting the temperature of air conditioning units at 25 degrees Celsius.
“So, isa sa proposal ay pa-uumpisahan ng Department of Energy ay magkakaroon siya ng change ng time ng pagpasok ninyo sa opisina, umpisahan iyan ng 7, tapos matatapos siya ng 4. So, ito iyong daylight saving time, saka sasabayan niya iyong sunrise, so mas maaga siya,” the Finance chief explained.
“So, that is one way, kapag nag-succeed iyong experiment ng DOE (Department of Energy) na iyon, baka i-adapt ng ibang agency iyon,” Diokno said. (PND)
