Inspired by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s mission to efficiently serve the Filipino people, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) assured the public on Tuesday supply of driver’s license cards is sufficient to support demand until yearend, an LTO official said.
LTO and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have already bid out close to 10 million license cards, LTO chief and DOTr Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza said during a sectoral meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacanan Palace.
Mendoza was joined by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and Undersecretary Andy Ortega to update the Chief Executive on the status of driver’s license cards and motor vehicle license plates.
“Ipinakita natin sa ating Pangulo na as far as the supply ng driver’s license cards is concerned, diri-diretso po tayo hanggang end of the year. We have sufficient driver’s license cards to support the demand for until end of the year,” Mendoza said.
“Humigit-kumulang mga 9.7 million cards na-bid-out na po iyan ng ating DOTr at LTO. So there is no reason why we will not have enough cards for the entire year. Dahil nga dito, by July 1 of this year, dapat wala na pong backlog,” he said.
Card holders whose licenses will expire on April 30 and those that expired last year are renewing their cards, he said. License holders whose expiry dates are from May 1 to May 30 and the last quarter of 2023 last were encouraged by Mendoza to go to LTO for the release of their paper licenses and plastic cards.
“At iyong mga hindi pa nag-renew, you have until May 31 to renew your licenses. Pagdating po ng Hunyo, ito na po iyong last first quarter of this year at saka iyong mag-expire po ng Hunyo, we are giving you the opportunity na i-renew na po ang inyong mga lisensiya at sapat na po iyong ating mga license cards,” he told reporters.
Mendoza said they also reported to the President that the LTO acquired engraver machines to replace old ones that are prone to breakdowns.
The agency is bidding out engraver machines this year to cover up for those that will break down, said the LTO chief, noting they are expanding the bidding for more machines as it proceeds until next year.
LTO will also launch a courier service to cater to those who don’t want to personally go to the LTO.
“Mayroon po tayong ilulunsad na parang SMS website na you can choose whatever courier you want as long as it’s accredited by the government para sa ganoon parang passport, you can just have your license card delivered to you kung ayaw niyo nang kunin. Mas lalo na iyong may papel na. Gusto natin convenient,” said Mendoza.
“Iyan ang utos sa atin ng ating Pangulo, a convenient means sa ating mga mamamayan para makuha nila ang kanilang lisensiya. PND
