PBBM highlights new airport, other key infra projects in Leyte

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. highlighted on Thursday the various major government infrastructure projects designed to boost the economy and tourism of Eastern Visayas.

In his speech during the distribution of financial aid to El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk in Leyte, Southern Leyte and Biliran, President Marcos cited the ongoing construction of the PhP2.57-billion Tacloban Airport.

“Ating ginagawa ang Passenger Terminal Building, ang airport runway, at karagdagang daan sa airport habang pinapalawak natin ang buong paliparan,” the President told the gathering of thousands of beneficiaries during the aid distribution in Palo, Leyte.

The Tacloban Airport development project includes the construction of the New Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) Phases I and II, asphalt overlay for runway, and the airport perimeter road.

They are expected to be completed by January 2026.

President Marcos also mentioned the construction of the PhP4.59-billion Tacloban City Causeway, which is expected to reduce travel time from the city proper to the airport from 45 to 10 minutes.

The construction of the causeway includes an approximately 2.57-kilometer (four-lane) road embankment with separate bike lanes, sidewalks, and wave deflectors on both sides.

The project is expected to be completed by December this year.

President Marcos said the assistance from the government is a manifestation of the administration’s efforts to prepare a brighter future for Filipinos. | PND
