The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) on Thursday expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s request for courtesy resignations from his Cabinet secretaries, committing to help build a government that serves with compassion, efficiency, and unity.
In an official statement, LCP Acting National President and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, along with LCP National Chairman and Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Benitez, affirmed the league’s solidarity with President Marcos’ leadership direction and praised Cabinet members who responded with humility and patriotism.
“The LCP expresses its full support for the President’s decision to evaluate the performance of Cabinet Secretaries through a call for courtesy resignations,” the statement read. “Together, we move forward in building a government that delivers with compassion, efficiency, and unity.”
“We commend and deeply appreciate the Cabinet members who have responded with humility and patriotism to the President’s call, demonstrating that true service to the nation transcends personal interest and partisan politics,” the LCP statement added.
President Marcos has called for the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet secretaries to recalibrate his administration following the recent election results, saying, “This is not business as usual. The people have spoken, and they expect results, not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”
Belmonte-Alimurung and Benitez said the LCP “recognizes that the results of the recent midterm elections reflect the people’s growing demand for faster, more transparent, and more effective public service.”
The LCP is an organization composed of all cities in the country, established primarily to voice out, articulate, and clarify issues affecting city governance and to pursue appropriate and lawful solutions to these concerns.
“As a responsive and listening leader, the President underscores his commitment to accountability and to building a government that is not only competent but also empathetic to the needs of every Filipino,” the statement read.
The officials noted that the call for a courtesy resignation reaffirms the President’s resolve to align his leadership team with the highest standards of excellence, integrity, and results-oriented governance.
“It sends a strong message that public service must always be rooted in trust, performance, and the greater good.”
The Acting National President and the National Chairman said, “The LCP stands in solidarity with the President during this renewed phase of governance and affirms its readiness to work closely with national government agencies in ensuring that no Filipino is left behind.” | PND
