Over 7,000 barangays go digital to speed up community services

Addressing community needs is now easier and faster, with over 7,000 barangays nationwide utilizing a digital platform that streamlines daily operations through organized and centralized record-keeping.

In a Palace briefing on Tuesday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s broader push for full government digitalization.

“Para sa hakbang patungo sa full government digitalization ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., umabot na sa 7,083 barangays, o 16.9 percent ang may access sa BIMS,” Castro said.

With BIMS, residents could avail of faster, more organized, and transparent delivery of barangay services, with accurate digital records that help ensure timely aid, efficient transactions, and responsive local governance.

Developed under the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Local Government Unit Support System (LGUSS) in 2024, the BIMS serves as a centralized digital platform for encoding, storing, and retrieving vital barangay-level information.

This includes household profiles, individual records, deceased persons, barangay officials, as well as complaints and inquiries.

Castro said the DILG is targeting to increase the number of barangays with access to BIMS this year.

To date, a total of 11,658 barangays, or 27.7 percent, have already been oriented about the program.

“Layunin ng DILG na magkaroon ng mas mabilis, mas efficient at data-driven na barangay governance sa buong bansa sa ilalim ng BIMS program ng ahensya,” Castro said. | PND
