PBBM: Nat’l ID physical production to continue despite gov’t digital push

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the public on Friday that the production of physical national identification cards will continue, even as the government intensifies its push for digitalization.

“May sektor pa rin ng ating lipunan na nag-i-insist doon sa physical ID. So, isusunod na namin ‘yun,” President Marcos said at the launch of the eGovPH Super app and the eGovPH Serbisyo Hub in San Juan City.

The President said the National ID’s digital version is particularly useful in the eGovPH Super app, which enables access to a wide range of government services and transactions.

“Inuna namin ‘yung digital dahil siyempre iyon talaga ang pinaka-nagagamit,” President Marcos said, noting that 88 million Filipinos have already acquired their digital national ID.

“With the digital ID, we are able to do all of the things that the eGov app is able to do. You can do all that in the comfort of your own home, in your office, or you know, while you’re playing Candy Crush. If you have five minutes, then do the paperwork that you need to do over the internet,” the Chief Executive added.

Latest data from the Philippine Statistics showed that of 112,729,484 Filipinos, a total of 93,485,139 have registered for the national ID.

As of June 6, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has reported the delivery of 54,913,634 physical national ID cards. | PND
