President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the public that the national government is fully mobilized to respond to the widespread flooding caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon.
In a recorded message on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) while in Washington, D.C. for a three-day official visit, President Marcos said he had already directed all concerned agencies to prepare for the severe weather conditions and ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities.
The President said he ordered key agencies including the Office of Civil Defense, Department of Transportation, Department of Health, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Energy, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to coordinate closely and work together in delivering timely assistance.
The Chief Executive likewise noted that relief goods and medical teams have already been deployed to affected areas.
President Marcos added that critical services such as transportation, water, and electricity supply will be secured, especially in flooded areas.
Meanwhile, the President called on the public to stay informed and heed all advisories from their local government units (LGUs) and the national government to ensure their safety.
In closing, President Marcos underscored the importance of strengthening the government’s capability to respond to natural calamities, especially amid the growing threats posed by climate change.
