MANILA – On May 16, 2025, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), chaired by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, engaged in a high-level dialogue with the representatives from the Korean consulate and the United Korean Community Association in the Philippines to address the rising violent crime rates committed against Korean nationals residing in or visiting the country. Also in attendance from the Office of the President were Ambassador Marciano A. Paynor Jr. (Ret.), Undersecretary Jeffrey G. Gallardo, and PAOCC Executive Director Gilberto DC Cruz.
Mr. Sang Seung-man, the Deputy Chief Mission and Consul General of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, appealed for strong reinforcement from the Philippine government authorities in enhancing the safety of the Korean communities in addressing the alarming violent crimes targeting Korean nationals, both residents and visitors alike. Mr. Sang suggested international police cooperation and intelligence gathering framework, which will pave the way for an effective investigation.
The PAOCC Chairperson, Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, reassured that the Philippine government authorities will remain steadfast in eradicating any acts of violence in the country.
PAOCC Executive Director Cruz presented a plan to strengthen the security and safety of the Korean residents across the country. Among the proposals mentioned was revitalizing the “Tourist Security Desk,” which is a small and specialized unit intended to provide police visibility and enhance coordination within local authorities in safeguarding foreign nationals at all times. An intensified monitoring of key localities such as in Angeles City, Manila, and Cebu will also be initiated.
These initiatives highlight PAOCC’s unwavering commitment and dedication to dismantling organized crime and suppressing criminality nationwide, reinforcing its pivotal role in upholding peace and order and public safety.
