Palace extends condolences to family of Lauro Vizconde
 
Malacanang has expressed its condolences to the family of Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption( VACC) Chairman Emeritus Lauro Vizconde, who died on Saturday at the intensive care unit of the Unihealth Parañaque Hospital and Medical Center in Sucat, Paranaque City after suffering four successive heart attacks.

The 78-year-old Vizconde was a member of the Board of Directors of the government-controlled Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC-13) since 2008.

“Lubos po kaming nakikiramay sa pamilya ni Ginoong Lauro Vizconde na pumanaw kahapon. Si Ginoong Vizconde ay naglingkod bilang miyembro ng Board of Directors ng Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC-13) na isang government-supervised television network simula pa noong 2008.

Siya rin ay isa sa mga nagtatag at Chairman Emeritus ng organisasyong Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC),” said Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. during an interview over Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday.

According to reports, a statement issued by his family said Vizconde’s heart attack was triggered by diabetic and pulmonary complications.

Vizconde founded the VACC after his wife, Estrellita, and daughters Carmela and Jennifer, were murdered in their family home in Paranaque in 1991. PND (jm)
Palace official says ‘mock elections’ beneficial to voters, COMELEC
 
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. on Sunday said the conduct of the mock elections on different voting centers in the country was beneficial for both the voters and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

The COMELEC conducted the mock elections in 20 key areas last Saturday to test the voting system to be used in the May 9 national elections.

“Sa ating palagay, naging kapaki-pakinabang ang pagdaraos ng mock elections kahapon sa iba’t-ibang lugar sa bansa. Naranasan ng mga botante kung paano ang aktuwal na sitwasyon sa presinto at natutunan ang tamang proseso ng pagboto,” said Coloma during an interview over Radyo ng Bayan.

The Palace official added that the exercise underscored the need to create heightened awareness among voters on what they need to do to be able to perform their civic duty properly.

“Dahil dito, mahalagang palawigin pa ang voters’ education program para higit na maging maalam at handa ang mga botante hinggil sa tamang proseso ng pagboto. Sa ganitong paraan mapapabilis din ang daloy ng botohan sa araw ng halalan,” Coloma further said.

“Nakaranas din ng mga problemang teknikal sa mga makinang gagamitin sa pagboto, pagbibilang ng boto at pagpapadala ng resulta ng eleksyon. Lahat ng mga usaping ito ay dapat matukoy upang tiyakin na maging tapat, maayos at may integridad ang pambansang halalan sa darating na Mayo,” said Coloma. PND (jm)
