President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on June 2, 2017 went to the 102nd Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Joining the President were Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs Arthur Tabaquero, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año, and Philippine Army Commander Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda.

The President talked to the troopers of the 102nd Infantry Brigade, urging them to continue to fight terrorism for he believes the government will not lose in the war on terror. He likewise reminded the military to act within the bounds of rules and treaties.

He also expressed his intention of acquiring more military assets, including fighter jets, ships, and armaments. The President said he is more inclined to procure brand new equipment instead of second-hand items.

The President added he has initially got a P20-billion trust fund intended for the education of the the troopers’ children. Moreso, he is eyeing a P50-billion trust fund to cover the education expenses of soldiers’ children.

Meanwhile, the President reiterated his vow to take full responsibility of the consequences of his Martial Law declaration in Mindanao, and he further urged the soldiers to do their duties for he has them covered.

The President ended his speech by assuring the police and military to have the best during his term.

Following his visit to the 102nd Infantry Brigade, the President then visited the wake of the late Corporal Nilo Donato, one of the soldiers accidentally killed in a government airstrike in Marawi City.

He awarded a posthumous medal to the fallen soldier and commiserated with the bereaved family. PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO
