President Rodrigo Roa Duterte shows solidarity with the soldiers during his visit to the troops of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade. He went to their headquarters at Camp Leono in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat on June 7, 2017.

President Duterte kicked off his visit by attending a situation briefing with Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año, Philippine Army
Commander Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda, and 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Bismarck Soliba. The President was shown surrendered firearms, ammunitions, and explosives by belligerent groups within the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade’s area of responsibility.

The President talked to the troops and commended the soldiers for risking their lives in order to attain peace and order in their area of responsibility as well as providing reinforcement for the anti-terror operations in Marawi City.

He also reiterated his stance of achieving peace for the entire country especially In Mindanao, citing his willingness to talk peace with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Moro National Liberation Front. The President, however, set a condition for the Communist Party of the Philippines as he urged the latter to sign a bilateral ceasefire with the government before they return to the negotiating table.

He ended his speech by urging the soldiers to remain steadfast in their fight against terrorism as he ensures them he is willing to take full responsibility of their actions.
