President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visits the troopers of the 603rd Brigade, 6th Infantry Division (6ID) of the Philippine Army (PA) at Camp Iranun in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. He went to the camp on June 9, 2017 and reiterated his stance to a shift to a federal form of government as a way to lasting peace.

Before talking to the troops, the President listened to a briefing by 603rd Brigade Commander Colonel Jesus Sarsagat. He also inspected the firearms recovered in the operations launched by the troopets from December 2016 to June this year. He likewise led the awarding of medals to the outstanding personnel of the 603rd Brigade.

He expressed gratitude to the troopers who have sacrificed time away from their families to defend the country’s sovereignty, uphold the constitution, and maintain peace and order within their area of responsibility. He lauded them for their unrelenting efforts in carrying out intensified operations against illegal drugs. He also vowed to provide them with sidearms to further increase their military capabilities.

During his speech, President Duterte put emphasis on his promise on a shift to federalism so that peace would be achieved with the Moros in Mindanao.

On another note, President Duterte insisted that his only goal is to serve the people.

He concluded his speech by urging the troopers to give him a call should they need assistance. He then broke bread with the troopers in a boodle fight. PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO
