President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced Friday the completion of eight farm-to-market road (FMR) projects in Bicol.
The completed FMRs are vital to linking farmers and consumers to ensure food security in the region, President Marcos said.
“Natapos na rin namin ang walong farm-to-market [roads] na maglalapit sa ating mga magsasaka sa mga mamimili,” President Marcos said during the distribution of land titles and support services and Presidential assistance to farmers, fisherfolk, and families in Pili, Camarines Sur.
“Kaugnay nito, siyam pa na farm-to-market [roads] ang ating ipapagawa sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng Region V,” he added.
Handed over to local government units, the completed FMR projects in Camarines Sur include the PhP 24,934,000 road concreting (0.98 kms) in Brgy. Camagong, Cabusao; PhP24,929,000 road concreting (1.48 kms), Brgy. Veneracion, Pamplona; PhP24,932,000 road concreting (1 km), Brgy. Sagrada, Minalabac; PhP24,941,000 road concreting (1.5 kms), Brgy. In addition to those projects, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is also working to address perennial flooding in the Camarines Sur plains caused by overflow of the Bicol River Basin (BRB), which affects the province’s agriculture sector.
The DPWH recently completed a flood-mitigating project along the BRB in Brgy. Mangayawan, Canaman, Camarines Sur.
Camarines Sur’s major industries include farming, fishing, and tourism. Among its agricultural products are rice, corn, coconut, sugar, and abaca. PND
