DOE, PCO tie up for “You have the Power” campaign

To raise awareness on energy conservation and inspire the youth on becoming advocates of sustainable practices in their respective communities, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) joined hands with the Department of Energy (DOE), in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the “You have the Power” campaign launched on Wednesday and Thursday at Philippines Science High School (PSHS) main campus in Quezon City.

Director Patrick T. Aquino of the Energy Utilization and Management Bureau said the campaign is an ignition of empowerment that paves the way for a greener, more energy-efficient Philippines.

“The “You Have the Power” campaign is one of the initiatives of the DOE and the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) that serves as an ignition of empowerment, paving the way for a greener, more energy-efficient Philippines,” Aquino said on his welcome message.

As part of the empowerment goals, Aquino said the campaign would educate and provide the public the information on promoting sustainability, conserving energy, and preserving the environment for the next generations.

“The campaign aims to educate and provide information in promoting sustainability and energy efficiency and conservation practices, no matter how big or small. This campaign aims to educate the public that energy efficiency and conservation is an essential part in preserving the environment for the future generations,” he added.

During the campaign launch in a nationwide campus caravan, PCO Assistant Secretary Patricia Kayle S. Martin pointed out the roles of communication in fostering sustainability in the Philippines.

The launch concluded as DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentabella commended the enthusiasm and commitment of the youth in becoming part of a brighter, more sustainable Philippines for future generations.

“I am deeply impressed by your enthusiasm and commitment to championing environmental stewardship at such a young age. Your passion for energy efficiency and conservation fuels our determination to enact meaningful change and to build a brighter, more sustainable Philippines for generations to come,” Fuentabella said.

Just recently, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. called for a whole-of-government approach in addressing power supply and early this year, he called on Filipinos to be conscious on energy utilization through Administrative Order 15 which would intensify efficient utilization and conservation efforts in the use of electricity and fuel; and help mitigate energy demand.
