President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on November 24 issued an order that effectively integrates the functions of the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
Through Executive Order (EO) No. 47, the NHCP will assume the management of the People Power Monument, ensuring its continued maintenance and upkeep.
The planning, organizing and implementation of activities to commemorate the 1986 EDSA Revolution remain with the EPPC.
The President also appointed the NHCP Chairman to concurrently serve as ex officio Chairman of the EPPC.
Further, the President shall appoint four other members, from the private sector. And he shall choose from among its members the Vice-Chairman of the EPPC.
Meanwhile, the NHCP will provide the Secretariat support to the EPPC.
“The funding necessary for the implementation of this Order shall be charged against the current appropriation of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines,” the EO read.
EO No. 47 further amended EO No. 82 (series of 1999), pertaining to institutionalizing the legacy of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution. ###PCO-Content
