Gov’t suspends work, classes in NCR, nearby provinces due to Southwest Monsoon

Malacañang announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels in Metro Manila and eight nearby provinces on Monday, starting at 1 p.m., due to continued heavy rainfall brought about by the Southwest Monsoon.

Work in government and classes were suspended in the National Capital Region, as well as Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, and Bataan, taking effect at 1 p.m., according to Memorandum Circular No. 88 issued by the Office of the President.

“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the memorandum read.

“The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” it added.

The southwest monsoon, enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Crising over the weekend, brought heavy rains to Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Monday morning. | PND
