Hosting LDF board to provide PH stronger voice on climate change — PBBM

The Philippines’ hosting of the Loss and Damage Fund Board will allow the country to convey to the world its concerns about climate change.

This was expressed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during an ambush interview after the impounding process ceremony of the Upper Wawa Dam in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday.

There has been damage and loss to the Philippine environment due to the industrialization of rich countries.

Seven months after the Philippines secured a seat in the inaugural Loss and Damage Fund Board in December last year, President Marcos said on Tuesday that the country was elected to host the board.

“I am proud to announce that the Philippines has been elected to host the Loss and Damage Fund Board, out of seven other contenders,” President Marcos said on his official X (@bongbongmarcos) account, formerly Twitter.

President Marcos said the Philippines is “also honored to have a seat on the Board itself, ensuring that the Philippines will be a formidable voice in promoting and advancing global climate action – an issue of critical interest to the country.”

In December last year, the Philippines secured a seat in the inaugural Loss and Damage Fund Board at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

President Marcos explained that “hosting the LDF Board reinforces our dedication to inclusivity and our leadership role in ensuring that the voices of those most affected by climate change shape the future of international climate policies.” | PND
