Following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s visit to a public school in Malolos, Bulacan facing water supply issues, local authorities have begun addressing the problem.
In response to the President’s directive, the City of Malolos Water District (CMWD) and PrimeWater have committed to improving water supply service in schools in Malolos before the opening of classes on June 16.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Press Officer Claire Castro said Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) Administrator Jose Moises Salonga confirmed that CMWD and PrimeWater, which manage the city’s water distribution, have started coordinating for the needed repairs.
“Ayon po sa kanila, kailangan po magkaroon ng improvement sa water supply service sa dalawang affected barangays,” said Castro during a Palace briefing on Wednesday.
Castro said PrimeWater has committed to repairing the affected pump station by June 13, 2025.
The two agencies are also expected to coordinate with the drainage contractor to ensure the restoration of the damaged main water line.
According to Castro, the repairs and system restoration are expected to normalize water service in the affected areas before the start of the school year.
Malacañang will continue to monitor the progress of the restoration efforts to ensure that the water problem in the city’s public schools is promptly and adequately addressed.
“Abangan po natin ang magiging trabaho ng PrimeWater kung tutupad sila sa kanilang pangako sa LWUA,” Castro said.
President Marcos had earlier expressed dismay over the absence of clean, running water in the restrooms at Barihan Elementary School in Malolos City, which he inspected during the nationwide kickoff of Brigada Eskwela last Monday. | PND
