More Filipinos interested to join public service – CSC

More Filipinos are recognizing the benefits of joining public service and have shown interest in working in government, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said Wednesday.

“So, right now we’re seeing more interest, higher interest in fact from the younger generation to enter into government,” Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairperson Karlo Alexei Nograles said in an interview over Malacañang Insider.

“Before, noong una ang ginagawa ng mga mag-asawa ay iyong isang asawa ay nasa private sector. Iyong kanyang asawa ay nasa government sector para balanse. Pero right now mukhang ang direksiyon na nga dahil nakita nila ang advantages of working in government, ang mag-asawa mas gusto nang parehong nasa gobyerno,” he added.

Nograles said most Filipinos have recognized the advantages of working in government. “I think the increase in the interest basically of getting into government and getting or landing a plantilla item was highlighted during the pandemic,” he said.

During the pandemic, private offices in the country and worldwide were forced to shut down, leaving employees without salaries, according to Nograles.

“But government continued to operate and suweldo ng mga officials and employees of government continued to be given,” he said.

Nograles also noted that the Filipino youth have shown interest in serving the people. During civil service examinations, half of the examinees in a classroom are between 18 and 25 years old.

“So, doon mo makikita anecdotally, at least for me, you’ll see that there are lot from the new generation that are really, really, really keen on being a civil servant,” Nograles said. PND
