Malacañang on Tuesday urged local government unit (LGU) officials to support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s transparency initiative on flood control projects, citing Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto for his prompt endorsement.
During a Palace press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Sotto’s endorsement of the “Sumbong sa Pangulo” platform exemplifies the vital partnership needed between national and local governments to ensure accountability and integrity in public works.
“Kagaya ni Mayor Vico Sotto, hinihikayat din ng Malacañang ang lahat ng local government officials na makiisa sa panawagan ng pamahalaan na mag-report sa Pangulo patungkol sa mga ma-anomalya,” Castro said.
Castro also said President Marcos recognized the City of Marikina, under Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro, for significant improvements in flood mitigation efforts.
Castro said measures taken by the Marikina LGU prevented widespread flooding whenever Marikina River threatens to overflow.
“Hindi man perpekto sapagkat may naiulat pa ring pagbaha, pero malayo na sa dating madalas na eksena ng pagtaas ng tubig sa lungsod,” Castro said, adding that Marikina’s functioning flood control system proves the value of preparedness and proactive governance.
The Palace reiterated that LGUs nationwide must work hand in hand with the national government to ensure flood control funds are used efficiently and effectively for the benefit of all communities. | PND
