Palace: NFA rice stocks adequate for 12 days

Malacañang on Wednesday assured that there are adequate rice stocks at the warehouses of the National Food Authority (NFA), enough to last for 12 days.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the NFA rice stocks are available for release to requesting local government units (LGUs) and relief agencies.

Castro said no damage has been recorded in the NFA rice stocks nationwide, particularly at the warehouses in Occidental Mindoro and Valenzuela City.

“Nationwide, wala pong na-danyos na stocks at ang NFA ay ready anytime to release stocks to requesting LGUs (local government units) and relief agencies,” Castro said.

“At sabi ng NFA administration, super-secure in terms of buffer stock ang NFA at meron po tayong enough stocks to last for 12 days. Buong Pilipinas po ay makakakain,” Castro added.

Occidental Mindoro and Valenzuela City—both sites of NFA warehouses—were affected by flooding due to heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon, intensified by severe tropical storm “Crising.”

Presently, the southwest monsoon is being enhanced again by tropical storm “Dante” and tropical depression “Emong.”

The two weather disturbances are expected to bring rain to most of Luzon and parts of Visayas until Monday. | PND
