President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday tasked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the local government unit (LGU) of Navotas to repair a navigational floodgate to address the flooding in the city.

In his speech during the distribution of aid to oil spill-affected fisherfolk and their families in Navotas, President Marcos said the DPWH, the MMDA, and the LGU will work hand in hand to solve the flooding in the city.

“Batid din namin ang pagsubok na dala ng pagbaha sa inyong lungsod, kaya naman, nagtulungan ang DPWH, ang MMDA, at ang LGU upang agad na maisaayos ang Navotas navigational gate para sa [mas] organisadong pagdaloy ng tubig lalo na sa panahon ng tag-ulan at high tide,” President Marcos said.

The President said the administration will also implement the KALINISAN Program led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“Kaakibat nito, ipinapatupad din natin ang KALINISAN Program, sa pangunguna ng DILG, upang maisulong ang bayanihan tungo sa responsableng pamamahala ng ating kapaligiran na maging malinis at pamayanang malayo sa banta ng mga sakuna,” he added.

Before concluding his speech, President Marcos urged the residents to actively participate in ensuring the continuous progress of Navotas City under the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas and in facing tomorrow’s challenges by helping one another with unity and resilience.

“Kasama ang bawat isa sa inyo, titiyakin natin na ang Navotas at ang Bagong Pilipinas ay patuloy na uunlad. Ang tadhana natin ay hindi nakatali sa trahedya at sa sakuna, kung hindi sa ating kakayahan magtulungan, magkaisa, at bumangon mula sa [pagsubok],” the President said.

“Sama-sama nating haharapin ang bukas—hindi lamang para malampasan ang unos, kung hindi para umusbong mula rito ang mas matatag at mas handa, at anumang hamon ng buhay ay kaya natin harapin.” PND
