PBBM cites ‘new phase’ in PH-Palau relations

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Monday that the Philippines and Palau have entered a “new phase” in their bilateral relations

“Our bilateral relations have much potential to grow, as evident in the discussions and the agreements we have forged this morning. These agreements form the building blocks of this new phase in our relations,” President Marcos.

The President made the remarks during a luncheon he hosted in honor of Palau President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. in Malacanang.

“Your visit comes only a few months after your country’s peaceful elections, which reflects the importance that you place in our bilateral partnership,” President Marcos told the visiting Palau President.

The President also congratulated the Palau President for the successful and peaceful holding of elections, noting that the November 2024 elections showed the world the strength of Palau’s democracy.

President Marcos thanked President Whipps for ensuring the safety and welfare of the more than 4,000 Filipinos in Palau.

“We thank the Government of Palau for ensuring the welfare of more than 4,000 Filipinos, and for recognizing their contribution to Palau’s economy and society,” President Marcos said.

“As we raise our glasses, let us remember the solidarity between Filipinos and Palauans throughout our history and let this be our guide to a promising shared future between our two countries,” President Marcos said.

“To the good health and well-being of President Whipps; to the continued prosperity of Palau and the well-being of its people; and to the enduring partnership between the Philippines and Palau. Mabuhay!,” he said. | PND
