President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed optimism Friday that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla will let the “judicial process work properly” following his son’s arrest in Las Piñas City for possessing over P1 million worth of high-grade marijuana. 

“I think that being the Secretary of the Department of Justice, he’s very aware that he must allow the processes of the judiciary to work properly and that no one in the Executive should interfere,” Marcos said in a media interview after his attendance to the 8th Annual Balik Scientist Program (BSP) Convention in Pasay City.

Agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group arrested on Tuesday Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, 38, after receiving a parcel containing about 1 kilo of kush in a house in Las Piñas City.

In a statement released by the DOJ Thursday afternoon, the justice secretary said he would “not intervene in nor influence” any case filed against his son and also thanked the PDEA “for doing their job, without fear or favor.”

The DOJ secretary said it was a “very difficult time” for him and his family, and he will respect the justice system. He also vowed to abide by the oath of office he took when he assumed his position.

The younger Remulla’s arrest was part of a “controlled delivery operation” of illegal drugs based on Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) regulations, according to PDEA. (PND)
