PBBM congratulates South Korea’s Lee for winning presidency

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended his warm congratulations to South Korea President Lee Jae-Myung on his victory in the elections held on June 4.

In a statement, President Marcos said he looks forward to further strengthen the bilateral relations between South Korea and the Philippines.

“On behalf of the Filipino people, I congratulate Lee Jae-Myung on his election as President of the Republic of Korea,” President Marcos said.

“The Philippines values its deep and enduring ties with the ROK and I look forward to working with him further to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between our two countries,” the President said.

Lee was elected president following dramatic elections six months after his predecessor plunged the nation into political turmoil.

The Philippines and South Korea have elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership, paving the way for deeper and more robust economic cooperation between the two nations.

This milestone is further reinforced by the Philippines-Korea Free Trade Agreement, which enhances economic relations by reducing or eliminating tariffs on key products, thereby creating greater opportunities for trade and investment.

Formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea were established on March 3, 1949, marking a long-standing and dynamic partnership built on mutual respect and shared values. | PND
