PBBM: De Lima’s acquittal shows ICC how justice works in PH

The acquittal of former senator Leila de Lima from her illegal drug charges will show the International Criminal Court (ICC) how justice works in the country, according to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“Well, maybe this is something we should show the ICC. Tingnan mo, the judiciary is working properly, all our investigative services are working properly. And former senator De Lima has been acquitted,” President Marcos said.

President Marcos made the remarks on the sidelines of the 2024 National Employment Summit (NES) in Manila when asked if De Lima’s case will affect ICC’s probe on the supposed illegal drug campaign of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

The President said the case of De Lima and the ICC probe are two different things. He said the government will remain consistent with its stand not to participate in any investigation of the international body.

“We will stay with our position that the ICC has no jurisdiction in the Philippines. Because we have a working police force, we have a working judiciary, and do not require any assistance in that regard,” the President said. | PND
