President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday highlighted the government’s intensified efforts to build more dams and flood control projects to cope with climate change and secure water for homes and farms.
During the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas rally in Batangas City, President Marcos said that for the first time, six typhoons hit the country between October to December last year — highlighting the need for the nation to make necessary adjustments.
He said the construction of dams is also significant, especially after the country experienced the El Niño phenomenon last year, which affected food production.
Aside from enhancing flood control, President Marcos said his administration also focuses on securing an adequate water supply for household consumption and agricultural irrigation.
He said dams are also being built to generate power to address the growing electricity demand in households and industries.
Additionally, the Chief Executive said the country completed the “One Grid” last year, which could ensure an adequate electricity supply in all areas of the country.
He explained that having “one grid” means the entire country shares a single power network, so all electricity flows through the same system nationwide.
| PND
