PBBM in full support of BARMM development to ensure the country’s food security – Galvez

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. fully supports the development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

According to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), the President believes in the potential of BARMM to become one of the most progressive regions in the country.

In a news forum in Quezon City, OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said BARMM is key to implementing the Marcos administration’s flagship programs, particularly on food security, agriculture, and aquaculture.

“And iyon, nakita namin talaga iyong Bangsamoro government has a lot of potentials kasi nakita ni Presidente in terms na iyong tinatawag natin iyong kaniyang mga flagship programs,” Galvez said.

“For example, sa food security – BARMM can answer those cattle; second, in terms of iyong tinatawag nating iyong sa agriculture, iyong sa aquaculture at saka sa fisheries,” the official added.

Referring to BARMM Cabinet Secretary Asnin Pendatun’s report, Galvez said “more or less 30 percent” of the country’s fisheries and other food products are from BARMM.

Galvez also cited developments in BARMM’s peace and security, which he said were mentioned at the Global Peace Summit.

“I just came from Oslo last month at napakaganda ng nakita kong reception na talagang iyong Bangsamoro Peace Agreement is a different agreement,” he said.

“Nakikita natin na isa ito sa mga nagiging ehemplo ng ibang bansa in terms of the implementation at saka in terms of the conception of the agreement,” Galvez added.

Galvez said the “BARMM peace process has a bright future.”

The country is set to reach another major milestone as it prepares for the holding of the first BARMM parliamentary election.

The polls will be held on May 12, 2025.
