President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday said property giant Megaworld is indeed the country’s true partner in national development for its great contribution in elevating Philippine tourism and the economy.
In his speech during the Ceremonial Opening of the Grand Westside Hotel of Megaworld Corp. in Parañaque City, President Marcos congratulated Megaworld and the Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) for another significant milestone.
“My heartfelt congratulations to all the hardworking members and personnel who contributed to the completion of this grand 1,530-room structure — the biggest hotel development in the country to date. Congratulations for all that you have achieved. It is an important addition to the company’s impressive lineup of prestigious development projects, as well as to Philippine tourism and hence to our economy,” the President said.
He said it is “particularly noteworthy considering the remarkable growth of the [Philippine] tourism sector, which contributed 8.6 percent to the country’s GDP last year,” adding that with the opening of the hotel, the country “can do more.”
With the opening of the Westside Hotel, President Marcos said the country can not only accommodate a resurging number of local and international tourists in Metro Manila, but will also make our Entertainment City be even more distinguished.
AGI CEO Kevin Tan is also hinting about other developments, the President said, including the upcoming Grand Opera House, theaters, and a gaming complex, among others.
He said Tan is seeing not only the “entry of more tourists but also the generation of more jobs, of new businesses, and of greater opportunity” for the country.
“Having developed many hotels and other tourism-related establishments around the country, Megaworld has shown that it is a true partner in national development and a great builder of dreams and sustainable communities in our society. For that and for all the projects that are under way, you have my utmost gratitude,” President Marcos said.
Around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs are seen to be created throughout the operation of the said hotel in the coming years.
As the government continues to formulate policies, foster social cohesion and development, and build better and more infrastructure, the President guarantees that working together can and will help empower Filipinos that will allow them to contribute to our society.
“Indeed, all of us share the desire to raise sustainable, complete, [and] well-rounded communities that even the next generations can enjoy,” he stated.
Before concluding his speech, the President also expressed confidence in the lasting and powerful outcome of the work of Megaworld and its collaborations with the government.
“I look forward to more of your triumphs like this that will undoubtedly contribute to the new Philippines, ang Bagong Pilipinas that we are all building,” he said.
In 2022, the President led the unveiling of Bacolod-Murcia Marker, while in April this year, he led the capsule laying ceremony for Megaworld’s grand township Mactan Expo Center in Cebu. PND
