PBBM orders First Scout Ranger Regiment to prioritize its capabilities, continue pursuit for peace



President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday ordered the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) of the Philippine Army (PA) to prioritize its capabilities and address pressing issues in the pursuit of everlasting peace in the Philippines.

In his speech during the 73rd Founding Anniversary of PA’s FSRR in San Miguel, Bulacan, President Marcos recognized the unit’s pivotal role in confronting internal security threats and safeguarding the Philippines.

“The specialized skills in warfare, counterterrorism, and special [operations] make you indispensable to our nation’s security. So, as we bolster our external defense, it is crucial to priorities capabilities that will significantly contribute to our credible defense posture,” President Marcos said.

“So, as we celebrate your achievements, let us also address a pressing national concern: the pursuit of lasting peace,” the chief executive added.

The President also urged the Department of National Defense (DND) to revisit the Scout Rangers’ capability requirements and pursue options that would enhance their operational capabilities and effectiveness to achieve the country’s desired defense objectives.

President Marcos said the Scout Ranger will be able to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) if provided with the necessary resources and support as it transforms to a stronger and more reliable defense force capable of defending the country against current and emerging threats.

In achieving an everlasting peace, President Marcos highlighted the issuance of Executive Order No. 47, which signifies significant steps towards national healing and peacebuilding.

“Our commitment to reconciliation and unity, reflected in the amnesty proclamation aligns directly with the Scout Ranger mission. By providing a path for former rebels to return to the fold of the law, the national amnesty program contributes to the overall stability and unity in our country,” Marcos said.

“I enjoin the Scout Rangers to continue to exemplify bravery, dedication, excellence, professionalism, courage in your mission of safeguarding and developing our nation,” he said.

“As I stand before you today, envision a Philippines where the echoes of gunfire have dissipated, replaced by the laughter and hopeful voices of our children, echoing the promise of progress, of unity, of peace,” he added.

“Let this vision ignite the flame of hope within each heart, for together, we are sculpting an insurgency-free, secure, and harmonious Philippines, where the dreams of our people flourish unhindered.”

President Marcos led the wreath laying and the conferment ceremony for exemplary Scout Rangers of the First Scout Ranger Regiment.

Before concluding his speech, the President acknowledged and honored the awardees for their exemplary performance of duties as he cited their dedication and excellence to defend the Philippines and the Filipino people.

The chief executive also extended his deepest appreciation to the stakeholders who have supported and contributed to the betterment of the FSRR. *PND*
