President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is considering how to address rising online gambling addiction as he sympathized with families of people who have become addicted to online gambling.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration has strengthened its operations against illegal gambling and fraud, citing the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) arrest of four Korean nationals for illegal online gambling.
“Ang Pangulo po ay nakikisimpatiya sa mga pamilya na nabibiktima ng ganitong klaseng gambling dahil po iyong iba nilang kasama sa bahay ay nagiging gumon sa pagsusugal,” Castro said during a press briefing in Malacañang Tuesday.
Castro said President Marcos will look into the Department of Finance (DOF)’s proposal to raise the taxes on online gambling.
“Iyan po ay tinitingnan din po ng Pangulo para mas maganda po ang maging polisiya pagdating po sa online gambling,” said Castro.
The government will also study the proposal to regulate social media influencers that promote online gambling, said Castro.
“So, pag-aaralan po lahat iyan at mabigyan ng tamang direksiyon at judgment on that matter,” said Castro. | PND
