Zamboanga City — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Saturday, March 10, attended the wedding of his police aide, P/SInsp. Sofia Lauren Deliu and P/Insp. Abdul-Bassar Abdurajak here.
Deliu, one of the President’s aide and a Ms. Earth Philippines finalist in 2015, was married to Abdul-Bassar Abdurajak, also a police inspector.
In his speech, President Duterte extended his warmest regards to the newlyweds.
“Marriage is not only about exchanging the sacred vows. It is also about committing a life filled with eternal love and happiness despite all hardships and difficulties,” he said.
“Take your time to adapt and know more about one another and accept each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Respect and understand your differences and shortcomings and show the same kind of passion and determination at work as a peace officer in keeping your relationship stronger,” he added.
“Continue to grow as a couple and nurture one another as you bring out the best in each other. Best wishes on this wonderful journey as you start building your new lives together,” Duterte said.
The President likewise advised Deliu to leave her post in the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and look for an assignment near her husband’s.
“As I’ve told you before, you can choose any assignment where you are nearest to the bridegroom para… well, to be closer together and we can always make arrangements na magkasama kayo, magkalapit lang. Para naman you start your marriage with a companionship that is constant and frequent,” Duterte said.
“I am happy to share this event with you and I said my advice to you when I was informed noon sa… Maybe it’s time… for you to leave the PSG and look for an assignment na mas magkita kayo araw-araw. Importante ‘yan,” he said.
“Kasi you are peace officers. You are engaged, challenged everyday. At least, after a day’s work magkikita kayo ng beloved mo,” he added.
Among the guests present during the wedding were Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, and Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go. PND
