President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday, August 14, asked for the broadcast media’s help in raising the awareness of the public on significant issues.

Duterte made this appeal as he hosted a dinner for the members and officials of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held at the Heroes Hall of Malacañan Palace.

“As we create an environment for our people to enjoy their freedom and cherish the gifts of democracy, I ask our friends from the broadcast media to continue helping the government in stimulating public awareness on vital issues that can touch the lives of ordinary Filipinos so that we can, in turn, help one another in collectively improving their lot in life,” the President said in his speech.

Among the KBP officials present were Herman Basbaño, President; Ruperto Nicdao, Chairman; Butch Canoy, Vice Chairman; Francis Cardona, Executive Vice President; Roberto Barreiro, Vice President for Television; Joselito Yabut, Corporate Secretary; and KBP directors Atom Henares and Erwin Galang.

The group thanked President Duterte for creating the Presidential Task Force on Media Security.

The Chief Executive signed on October 11, 2016 Administrative Order No. 1 which created the task force that is mandated to ensure a safe environment for media workers.

KBP, according to its website, is a non-government, non-profit organization of the broadcast media in the Philippines. It has 120 member networks with 800 radio and TV stations under its wing.###(PND)
