President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed elation Tuesday over the return of FedEx Express to the Philippines after abandoning its regional hub in Subic Freeport for China 11 years ago.
“For the good news, again, iyong FedEx is the largest logistics company in the world has returned to the country in Clark after leaving Subic for China in 2009,” President Duterte said during his weekly public address on government’s COVID-19 interventions.
“FedEx constructed a brand new [17,000] square meter world-class facility in Clark that features state-of-the-art cold storage facilities capable of shipping and storing sensitive cargo like vaccines.”
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of the world’s leading logistics company FedEx Corp., unveiled last year its $30 million gateway facility in Clark after the company left for China 11 years ago.
Located on a 17,000 square meter facility in Clark, the new Philippine gateway opened its commercial operations this month.
The Clark facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies that increase sorting capabilities and also features dedicated areas to process large heavyweight freight.
With FedEx’s move to Clark, customers in Northern Luzon and Cebu will enjoy an extended cut-off time.
The logistics company first opened its regional Asian hub in Subic, Zambales, in 1995 but decided to move to Guangzhou, China, after 14 years of operation. PND
