President Rodrigo Roa Duterte vowed to go after corrupt Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) officials saying he would spend his two remaining years in office eliminating corruption at the state-run insurance corporation.
In a televised public address Tuesday morning, President Duterte said he himself would endorse the cases to be filed against corrupt PhilHealth officials, stressing he would affix his signature in endorsing cases against them.
The President said the PhilHealth should be thoroughly investigated and those responsible must be prosecuted.
“Iyong PhilHealth ang dapat imbestigahan at dapat i-prosecute lahat at dapat ikulong. Kung iyan na lang ang trabaho ko sa maiwan ko sa tat — dalawang taon, iyan na rin ang gagawain ko,” he said.
“One of the things that — few things that I can do in the remaining two years of my term, uubusin ko ito ‘yung panahon ko to work on the cases for people who are involved in the PhilHealth,” he added.
The President has ordered an investigation into allegations of corruption in PhilHealth following the testimony of a former antifraud officer who said corrupt officials may have pocketed around P15 billion last year.
Congress and the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) are conducting separate investigations. PND
