As a “force in its own right,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday paid tribute to the Philippine Air Force (PAF) for 78 years of unwavering service, calling it “credible, agile, and essential” to the country’s aerospace defense.
In his keynote address during the 78th founding anniversary celebration of the PAF at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, President Marcos described the Air Force as an institution that continues to evolve and respond to the nation’s needs with discipline, courage, and consistency.
“So I say this with great pride: the Philippine Air Force is a force in its own right. It is credible, agile, essential to our country’s aerospace defense,” the President said.
The Commander-in-Chief acknowledged the institution’s long-standing legacy of excellence, forged through decades of hard work, sacrifice, and patriotism.
“Reaching this milestone is no small feat. This was earned through discipline, determination, and unshakable devotion to protecting the people and to protecting the State,” the President said.
President Marcos commended the PAF for its steadfast performance in the face of adversity, acknowledging its role in both military and humanitarian operations.
“It meant taking off to the skies even when the weather was inclement; bringing supplies to typhoon-ravaged areas when help was needed; providing support to troops on the ground when morale was at its lowest. It meant showing up with consistency, competence, and integrity,” said the President.
Reflecting on this year’s anniversary theme, “Focus PAF at 78,” the Commander in Chief urged Air Force personnel to stay true to their mission amid emerging challenges and growing responsibilities.
“Focus PAF at 78 demands of us all to continue fulfilling this mandate with clarity of purpose and conviction. It is a reminder to stay committed to our mission—one that is strengthened with enhanced capabilities and enduring values,” President Marcos said.
The Philippine Air Force was officially established on July 1, 1947, through Executive Order No. 94, marking the start of a storied journey in national defense and public service. | PND
