The President is leaving for an official one-day visit to Brunei Darussalam today, October 5, to attend a landmark event, the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.
The visit will be an important opportunity for the President and the Sultan to further strengthen Philippines-Brunei bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and for the President to personally convey the invitation for His Majesty to visit the Philippines again for the ASEAN Summit in November.
This visit, upon the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan, underscores the two countries’ special friendship. Most recently, His Majesty the Sultan undertook a State Visit to the Philippines last April 27, prior to his participation in the 30th ASEAN Summit.
His Majesty has been a committed supporter of peace and development in Mindanao. Moreover, some 23,000 Filipinos have made Brunei their second home.
The Chief Executive will be joining other heads of state and governments in this significant visit.
